QUEENSLAND

HOMICIDE

The number of Homicide victims in Queensland decreased by 9% from 114 victims in 2014 to 104 in 2015. Males accounted for the majority of Homicide victims, representing nearly two thirds (63%). The most prevalent age for Homicide victims was 20-34 years (36%). (Tables 25 & 26)

The most prevalent location for Homicide victimisation was residential; representing over two-thirds (69%) of victims. The offender was known to the victim in 63% of Homicides. (Tables 27 & 29)

Of all offences in Queensland, weapon use was most prevalent for Homicide. A weapon was recorded for two thirds (68%) of victims of Homicide. The most frequent weapon used was a knife, which was used in a third (33%) of Homicides. (Tables 9 & 27)


SEXUAL ASSAULT

The number of Sexual assault victims in Queensland increased for the fourth consecutive year, up by 3% from 4,063 victims in 2014 to 4,199 in 2015. Females accounted for the majority of Sexual assault victims (82%) and were four times more likely than males (17%) to be the victim of Sexual assault. The most prevalent age for Sexual assault victims was 15-19 years. The most prevalent location for Sexual assault victimisation was residential, accounting for two-thirds (70%) of victims. (Tables 6-8)

Over two thirds (71%) of Sexual assault victims knew the offender, with the offender being a family member for one third (33%) of victims. For Victims aged 0 and 9 years, these proportions were higher with four in five (79%) victims in this age group knowing the offender and just under half (48%) victimised by a family member. Queensland had the highest proportion of victims sexually assaulted by a family member of all states and territories. (Tables 11 & 12)

ROBBERY

The number of victims of Robbery stayed relatively stable in 2015, increasing by 1% from 1,360 victims in 2014 to 1,380. Males accounted for 69% of Robbery victims, while the most prevalent age for Robbery victims was 25 to 34 years. (Tables 6 & 7)

The most prevalent location for Robbery victimisation was retail, representing 31% or 424 victims. (Table 8)


UNLAWFUL ENTRY WITH INTENT

The number of Unlawful entry with intent (UEWI) victims decreased to a 6 year low in 2015, down 4% from 33,857 victims in 2014 to 32,483. The most prevalent location for UEWI victimisation was residential, representing 70% or 22,708 victims. (Tables 6 & 8)
